"In a perfect world, Inside Joke would be seen by millions on Comedy Central."
-Joe Grossman, Time Out NY
Inside Joke, a cross between Charlie Rose and This Old House, sets out to answer the question "What makes people laugh?" without ever asking it.
This month, we welcome Jon Benjamin and Jon Glaser. As a comedic duo, they've worked together for years, and host the Midnight Pajama Jam at the PSNBC space in NYC. Independently, they've each racked up some nice credits.
Jon Benjamin may be more familiar to you for his voice than his face. He played "Ben" on Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist and "Coach McGuirk" on the Cartoon Network's Home Movies. He was even a regular on The Jenny McCarthy Show! He's currently working on a new cartoon series with David Cross, with whom he co-hosted Tinkle and worked with in Boston in the Cross Comedy troupe. He's done a slew more television and movie work, the list goes on and on....
Jon Glaser's another behind-the-scenes master, having written for The Dana Carvey Show, TV Funhouse, Late Night with Conan O'Brien and The Nick & Jessica Variety Hour. He was a correspondent for The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, and was a Second City Chicago main stage player alongside Adam McKay and Rachel Dratch.
Past guests at Inside Joke include Stephen Colbert, Anchorman director and co-writer Adam McKay, Scott Thompson of The Kids in the Hall and Al Franken, among others. More information is available at inside-joke.com, as well as the interview with Jon Stewart that started the stage show, Stephen Colbert conversation highlights, an MP3 of the Chicago Improv Festival show with guest Mark Twain, and photos from past chats.
'The simple setup of Inside Joke, two chairs facing each other on a bare stage, reflects the refreshing candor of its concept: a conversation about the art of comedy with some of its best practitioners. At first glance, it might resemble an Inside the Actor's Studio for comedians, but Carl Arnheiter's ease with his guests is far more entertaining than James Lipton's awe-inspiring pretension and obsequiousness. Of course, the guests are a lot funnier, too.'
