UCB Alum Chris Gethard’s New Book ‘Lose Well’ Is Out Now

Oct 18, 2018

It was a bittersweet moment this summer when we said goodbye to The Chris Gethard Show. From its first iteration on the UCB stage in Chelsea to its final version on TruTV, it was always a singular experience. Now, a few months after the last episode, UCB alum Chris Gethard has released his new book “Lose Well’ – a collection of essays, funny stories, and helpful advice on how to make the best of missteps and failures.

In an interview with Forbes, Gethard explains how he didn’t want Lose Well to be a typical self-help book:
“I thought to myself, ‘If I'm going to do this, I want to put all the advice out there that I think is actually proven by trial and error.’ I really make an effort in the book to go, ‘This is the stuff that has worked for me, that I've figured out along the way and that has helped me out. Maybe it will help you too. Also, here are some funny stories.’”

Written in Gethard’s signature style and wit, we can’t recommend Lose Well enough!

Praise for Lose Well:
“If anyone can get you to give your dreams an honest shot, it’s Chris Gethard, the king of somehow turning defeats into victories.” - Judd Apatow

“I was on the altar of Chris Gethard’s wedding, when he was waiting a really long time for his bride to show up. Like, so long. I figured, based on his past life experiences, that it wasn’t going to end well. Anyway, that’s what this book is like.” - Mike Birbiglia

“This is funny, sure, but it’s very much more. Chris speaks inspirational life truths to the outsider in all of us. A pithy road map of the antiestablishment path by which one can succeed in comedy and life. Gethard gets it.”  - Nick Offerman

Lose Well, published by Harper One, is Chris Gethard’s second book. His first book, A Bad Idea I’m About To Do, was published in 2012.

IFC developing several series from UCB alumni

Aug 17, 2017

IFC announced a development slate for the 2018 season including three projects from UCB alumni.  Congratulations to creators Jocelyn DeBoer & Dawn Luebbe, Carl Foreman Jr. and Josh Ruben.

Greener Grass
Based on a short film of the same name, the small town of Greener
Grass is a living Norman Rockwell painting whose welcome sign boasts
“Nothing bad ever happens here.” However, beneath the town’s gilded
facade lies a world of bad things happening. Starring, written and
executive produced by Upright Citizens Brigade alums Jocelyn DeBoer and
Dawn Luebbe.

Frank and Lamar
Based on the IFC Comedy Crib series, Frank and Lamar are two
best friends who live together and work together as middle school
teachers in New York City. Workplace drama and romance issues cause
havoc in their otherwise smooth friendship so they are forced to decide
whether to stick together or go it alone. Created by and starring Carl
Foreman Jr.
and Anthony Gaskins.

Lee’s Kill List
Trapped in an oppressive work environment, Lee takes matters into her
own hands by killing the bullies and bosses that threaten her job as a
cleaning solution salesperson. Created, written and directed by Josh
and Vince Peone (
