I started doing comedy (short form improv) in bars, then in black boxes, then theaters and concert halls all over the country. Then I saw the Upright Citizens Brigade perform their show ASSSSCAT (long form improv) in New York City, and it blew my mind. Not only were the UCB themselves in that show, but there were people like Tina Fey, Stephen Colbert, and Adam McKay performing with them regularly. So I decided I wanted to do that.
I started taking classes with them, and they eventually wised up and asked me to perform in their show. I was also asked to join a house team called The Swarm, which only turned out to be the greatest improv team of all time. Our show, Slow Waltz Around Rage Mountain, ran at the UCB Theater in NYC for five years.
Around that time I started doing stand-up, and within a few years I had been on Comedy Central’s Premium Blend, NBC’s Late Friday, and Late Night with Conan O’Brien. I did a one-man show called Taught that was selected for the HBO Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, CO. Done a ton of stuff since then too, we don't have time.
In 2004 I moved to Los Angeles. Luckily, the UCB opened a theater here in 2005, and I’ve been doing ASSSSCAT out here ever since; they were even smart enough to ask me to perform in their concert movie in 2008. I’m also still doing the stand-up thing; I just recorded an album- out soonish (February 2013!). I host a podcast called The Long Shot (www.thelongshotpodcast.com). I also have a podcast called Sean Conroy Presents: The Flabbergast (http://feralaudio.com/show/sean-conroy-the-flabbergast/). And I’m a frequent guest on Matt Besser’s Improv4Humans podcast (http://www.earwolf.com/show/improv4humans/).
A few more things: I will see the Knicks win an NBA championship within the next 5 years. I’ve read the entire Patrick O’Brien Aubrey/Maturin series 6 times. And finally, I used to teach junior high school science, so I know what you did wrong before you even thought about doing it. So don’t even think about it.
