UCBT's Nick Mendillo and Ben Wietmarschen Selected For 2013 MLB Fan Cave

Congratulations to Nick Mendillo and Ben Wietmarschen, two of this year's MLB Fan Cave Cavedwellers!

Social Media Savvy Fans Bring Unique Blend of Backgrounds Combined with Intense Passion for Baseball

Major League Baseball today revealed the nine fans who will begin the season in the MLB Fan Cave, watch every single MLB game each day, chronicle their experience via social media while creating videos with MLB players and celebrities, and compete with each other along the way for the right to stay in the Fan Cave through the World Series. The nine “Cave Dwellers” campaigned extensively to be among 30 finalists earning a trip to Spring Training last month, then survived two days of interviews, challenges, and other activities in Arizona to ultimately be selected by MLB as one of the final contestants.

The nine “Cave Dwellers” – Daniel Farris, Marcus Hall, Alex Justice, Nick Mendillo, Travis Miller, Mina Park, Aaron Roberts, April Whitzman, and Ben Wietmarschen  – will relocate from across the country later this month to the MLB Fan Cave, which returns for a third season in 2013 following a year of tremendous growth in social media activity, fan engagement, and video content, as well as a highly successful concert series featuring top musical acts. With more than 1.2 million combined followers on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, the MLB Fan Cave has built a large community of baseball fans that the Cave Dwellers will have a chance to interact with during the 2013 season, an audience whose average age is 20 years younger than the average baseball fan. Supported by MLB Advanced Media, the MLB Fan Cave is a unique event space at 4th Street and Broadway in New York City’s Greenwich Village mixing baseball with music, popular culture, media, interactive technology, and art.

“The MLB Fan Cave has far exceeded our goals and expectations these past two years, and once again our fans have raised the bar and brought a new level of creativity and passion to their efforts to be a part of it,” said Tim Brosnan, Executive Vice President, Business, Major League Baseball. “Choosing these nine fans out of the finalists we had in Arizona last month was our toughest challenge yet, but we’ve arrived at a great group of fans that are truly representative of our fan base. Fans will enjoy interacting with them on social media and following their adventures in the Fan Cave all season long.”
