UCBTLA Maude Team Writer Submissions 2013UCBTLA is now accepting writing submissions for Maude teams.
MAUDE TEAM INFO
A Maude team consists of a group of writers and a separate group of performers who work together to put on a live monthly sketch show at the UCB Theatre. We are accepting submissions FOR WRITERS ONLY at this time.
Some factors to consider before submitting:
Maude writers will be expected to attend a weekly meeting with an approved director and bring in at least one new sketch and one rewrite every week. Failure to do so will result in your dismissal from the team. If you don't feel you can devote the necessary time/work to Maude due to improv/work/other commitments, don't submit.
This is not a performer position -- Maude writers are in no way guaranteed performance opportunities in Maude shows. Maude performers are selected through a separate audition process. Auditions for new Maude performers will be held at a future date TBA.
Maude involves a large time commitment, so writers should view their Maude teams as their first priority when it comes to sketch comedy. Some of UCBTLA's best writers won't be on teams because their priority is to their own sketch group or solo shows, or because they'd rather use the time to focus on performance opportunities. If you feel like your sketch priorities lie elsewhere, please don't submit.
Maude team members will be expected to pay their team directors for their time in meetings. Team directors will be assigned by the Artistic Director, although it is the responsibility of the team to find a substitute director should their assigned director not be able to attend a meeting/rehearsal.
HOW TO SUBMIT
To be eligible to submit, you must have successfully completed UCB Sketch 201 at any point in time (students currently enrolled in Sketch 201 are also eligible) OR you must be a former Maude Team writer.
A Maude writing submission packet consists of 3 different sketches you've written, for a total of no more than 15 pages (not including title page). Include the material you feel best represents you as a writer and shows us your sense of humor. Sketches can be intended either for stage or for video, although we would suggest including no more than one video script per packet.
Please note that we cannot consider material you have co-written -- include only sketches you've written solo.
Maude packet submissions will be handled via email. Please make note of the following submission guidelines. If you do not follow the guidelines, your submission will not be considered.
In the body of your email, include the following information:
Names of all of your UCB Sketch teachers
Any people/groups with whom you frequently collaborate (if applicable)
A list of the titles of the 3 sketches in your packet
Attach your sketch packet to your email as a single attachment. In other words, combine all 3 of your sketches into one .pdf. If you can't figure out how to turn your document into a .pdf, you should spend more time with your word processor.
Email your completed submission to:
[email protected]. Non-submission emails sent to this address will not be read.
The deadline to submit is 11:59pm on Friday, January 4th. No submissions that arrive beyond this moment in time will be considered. You've got a month. Make it work!
